vidnaObmana: Sountrack for the Aquarium

(Hypnos - 2001)

Those lucky fish in the Antwerp Zoo got to soak in the sounds of vidnaObmana back in 1992; now you (and your fish) can too.

Sountrack for the Aquarium delivers two discs of swirling subaquatic sound ooze brimming with looping electronics/tapes and unrecognizable strands of flute and voice.

Fluid soundwaves, like oceanic currents, flow through Aqua 1 (theme) stippled with bubbly/crackly textural grit and occasional organic occurences. Shapelessly billowing glares radiate through Aqua 2a (19:19), hovering in an enigmatic (sometimes almost spooky) suspension. Ringing lows convolve with glimmering highs and are swept by waves of the ever-present effervescence as Aqua 2b carries on in the previously described manner. Starker emanations shimmering from Aqua 6 (theme) (2:37) close the nearly-70-minute disc.

Disc two features a 44-minute version of these fishy themes captured during a live performance in Hamburg. Both the shapeshifting tones and the fizzy accents seem to be somewhat more, uh, watered-down... that's not a complaint either, I think I prefer these more subdued ripples.

Submerge yourself in the everchanging flows of Sountrack for the Aquarium. Two discs are filled with sweltering ephemerality and fizzling bubblets courtesy of vidnaObmana and Hypnos recordings. I would love to have witnessed the underwater lifeforms at the aquarium accompanied by these 8.5 streams. 8-5.gif
