LogoQOM 10/98

QOM is the Question of the Month, as answered by a select group of ambient/electronic artists.
For 1998's 4th quarter, we've got special Holiday-related Q's and A's to get you in the spirit.

"All I Want..."

"Assuming you've been good... What do *you* want for Christmas?"
That's an easy one. As I am not into the formal commercialsm of Christmas about the only thing I want is for everyone that I personnally know to just have their health and good mental stamina. We all tend to concentrate on materialistic gifts for the Holidays when the true meaning is connecting with family and friends regardless of "prizes" under a tree.
    - Gregory Kyryluk: Alpha Wave Movement/Open Canvas

Why is it always so hard to say what you want ? To be surrounded by the love of friends and family. Such an enormous joy !
...........maybe a new Mac too !
    - Martin Franklin: of Tuu

A sampler
Some discs for it
Some books
A text to speech program for the Mac that doesn't exist.
    - lk: (audiochrom)

You mean besides peace on Earth and another glass of eggnog? hmm...I want to be able to spend as much time as possible doing what I feel passionately about; music, graphics, and writing. Oh yeah...and I want the Foundry live show to come together!
    - M. Bentley: the foundry

I want to touch the mentality or creativity of composers, who wrote classical Christmas songs.
    - Katsuya Hironaka: Electronician

Let's hope each year I'm granted to have the gift and possibility to proceed with realizing the music. Although I'm not really a gear junkie, I surely would like to have the funding to upgrade the studio a bit more. But I guess this need has no ending so I'm already happy with my first request.
    - Vidna Obmana: ambient artist

In a larger sense, I'd like world peace. I know it sounds trite and it's not "cool" or whatever but it's what this place needs the most.
Besides that, toys! Lot's of them. A new sampler would be nice, maybe an extra harddrive. Pajamas with feet in them, like the ones I had when I was a kid. True love would be great, too. There's always tons of stuff, I can't think of it all right now.
    - Brett Smith: of Caul

I've been told many times that I'm a hard person to shop for, and that has gotten worse as the years have passed! Without trying to have my answer sound like a cop-out, what I REALLY want for Christmas is to see my daughter have a great one! This will be her second Christmas, and will be the first year she'll really understand what's going on.
    - Jeff Pearce: ambient guitarist

I want Christmas to retire. It's had its day. I'd much rather celebrate the winter solstice, knowing that the days are getting brighter again.
    - Neville Harson: of Mandible Chatter

Time... it's the only thing I need more of...
    - Kim Cascone: ambient/electronic artist

1. A "Real Piano"
2. Digital Mixer
3. A good long vacation (say 2 weeks worth)
4. Upgrade my DAW
5. One of those really cool spill proof coffee mugs that I can take with me in the car!
    - James Johnson: ambient artist

Look for a new AmbiEntrance QOM with each semi-scheduled monthly upload. No telling who may join in, so be sure to check back...
