Musical Nature: Solstice Chill

(Musical Nature - 2001)

Geoff Varosky envelops his Musical Nature in lush shapelessness... a technique particularly effective to represent his wintery-yet-warm visions of a Solstice Chill.

Inspired by falling snow, a glowing blur of gaseous waveforms wafts through Measured In Kelvin - Part I. Cirrus soundclouds stream above Measured In Kelvin - Part II with a couple instances of distant radio voice. Muffled drifts sweep across Measured In Kelvin - Part III with only traces of what may be vastly stretched human murmers.

Phantasmally faint sonic currents rise and fall throughout Measured In Kelvin - Part IV, occasionally threaded through with gleaming-though-hazy guitar strands and other light adornments. Darker submersions occur when Measured In Kelvin - Part VI (4:47) slips into an even-chillier, more-ominous mode, pleasantly so, of course. As the snowfall tapers, the slurring tonal murk of Measured In Kelvin - Part VIII (10:48) gives me the vision of orchestra sounds which have been liquified, then poured into a slow-motion free-fall (past some birds apparently, judging by their periodic cheeps).

Musical Nature examines both music and nature within the beatless ambiance of Solstice Chill, though each are interestingly reduced into their most amorphous forms. An 8.5 for chilly atmospheres which can take you away any time of year.

Geoff Varosky's Musical Nature website tells more about this economically-priced getaway, and others.
