Larry Kucharz delivers more of his uncluttered "electrochoral" sounds; DigiChoral Blue Portraits is the third in a series (preceded by Electrochoral Dreams and Metachoral Visions).

Also we interview Larry this month to learn more aout the man behind these readily identifiable sounds of majestically neosymphonic minimalism.

Upon pressing the Play button, the serene, wafting tones of Tinctorian Blue immediately begin to seep, spreading softly and widely. Simply angelic, Obrecht Blue rises and falls on lush "fugal" arrangements. The cascading choral "voices" of Monteverdian Blue seem more active and melodic, while still retaining Kucharz's trademark austerity.

Victorian Blue (3:02) is the color of sonorous waves unfurling in patterns of regal splendor. The undisturbed strands of Franconian Blue and the more lively, though still resplendently becalmed, Dufay Blue are also defined by layers of swelling brass and string sounds, extending into a resonant haze. Similarly brassy, Byrd Blue is awash on long, long soundwaves which almost imperceptibly pitch and shift as if buoyed on a vast ocean.

The light-but-steady breezes which waft through Guidonian Blue carry flutey overtones in their continually flowing midsts. Sustained bursts and intervals of silence lead into Leonin Blue (18:20) which soon picks up a continual background thrum, as the afore-mentioned bursts continue. The durations of tonality vs. nothingness fluctuate in almost-geometrical patterns, sometimes backed by warm, machine-like drones.

Larry Kucharz's restrained-yet-free-flowing electro-orchestrations once again slowly soar, unfettered by any distracting elements. For simple serenity, DigiChoral Blue Portraits is another successful venture into the preternaturally sublime, earning an 8.7.
