Deep Chill Network: Dreams 2 (Dark Duck Records - 1999)
For those who simply wish to drift without the encumbrance of beats, sound effects or other audio intrusions, Dreams 2 offers a perfect space in which to do so. These gentle freeform soundwaves from Deep Chill Network whisp and whirl through a realm of wondrous, calm surreality.

The opener is a prime example of everything ambient music should be and do. Warmly shapeshifting soundclouds roll through Preliminary Motion (21:27), laced with shimmering strands and raspier synth breezes. Not necesarily "going" anywhere, but certainly not static, the sounds twist in upon themselves and roll back out again in a most lovely display of serene sonic contortions.
Heading into spacier environments, Constricting Hour journeys through pulsing electron waves and darkly radiant nebulas. Celestial chimes, solar winds and computerized echoes merge into one long, fascinating ride into truly chilled galaxies. Quite sublime!
A bit darker, Nightmare Vision (19:53) is definitely not as scary as the title may imply. Deep synth drones and extended string sounds are visited by more-electric ruffling patterns as the piece slowly unfolds, spattered with occasional organic effects.

The sounds emitted by Deep Chill Network are very tasty indeed when one hungers for some smoothly flowing atmospherics. Dreams 2 ranks an appreciative AmbiEntrance 8.7.
