Alio Die & Amelia Cuni: APSARAS

(Projekt - 2001)

Alio Die & Amelia Cuni combine their specialties to tell APSARAS' tale of celestial nymphs and the waters of the mind; in an enchanting convergence of lighter-than-liquid electronics, fluid soundsources and supple dhrupad singing (that's a traditional North India style), six gorgeous pieces allow for luxurious soaking.

In disc-opener AMBHAS, Amelia Cuni's vocal strands unfurl in lazily turning spirals within Stefano Musso's levitating synthsheens. Drifting among ethereal vapors, take a tranquil longform journey to island of the rose apple tree (15:28); soft undulations of voice seem like gently rolling hills underscored by aquatic textural movements. Darker glimmers rumble beneath 14-minute water memories as Cuni's intonations sweep and swirl in breath-defying currents.

More-actively rippling vocals evoke the churning of the ocean (5:40), as Musso's sweltering atmospherics pulsate accordingly. Grumbling with isolation, windswept flatlands lead to the 12-minute finale, APSARAS; when Amelia joins, the dense soundclouds gain warmth and light.

Entrancing APSARAS is an hourlong delicacy of exotic sound. Ethnic vocals are prominent of course, though the unintelligible streams are at one with the amorphous clouds which resonate throughout the ephemeral 8.9 collaboration of Alio Die & Amelia Cuni.

Another gem from from the ever-evolving Projekt.
