Amir Baghiri/Mathias Grassow: True North   (8.5)
(Arya - 1998) - Cool off this summer with a murky tribal expedition into chilling aural climes.

Meg Bowles: from the dark earth   (9.0)
(Kumatone - 1999) - An unusual pairing of Meg Bowles' dark, spacey electronics with David Bilger's golden trumpet flows.

deutsch nepal: erosion   (8.4)
(Staalplaat - 1999) - Strangely listenable sonic alterations by way of loops and distortions.

dystopia: the second dawn   (8.4)
(Origo Sound - 1998) - A dark ambient/electronic nuclear protest rally... quite nicely rendered.

FingerPaint: In the Loop   (8.3)
(FNGP - 1999) - Quite a variety of sounds and styles are tossed into this interestingly whorling vortex.

Deborah Martin: Deep Roots, Hidden Water   (8.3)
(Spotted Peccary - 1999) - With a little help from her friends, Deborah Martin has woven a silky ambient tapestry flowing with almost-orchestral elegance.

Nick Parkin: Island of Dust   (9.2)
(Soleilmoon - 1999) - Ethnic instrumentation is transmuted into truly unbelievable soundforms. Impressive in execution and scope!

Robert Rich: Inner Landscape   (9.0)
(Hypnos - 1999) - Travel back a few years to recapture the timeless sounds from one of Rich's improvised concerts.

stilluppsteypa: reduce by reducing   (8.2)
(Staalplaat - 1998) - Minimal electronics from an Icelandic trio cast a grey, though charged, illumination.

Various Artists: North Africa   (8.5)
(World Class - 1999) - Genuine "world music" explores Arabic influences on African sounds. Stylistically varied and upbeat with very little new-aginess.
