This will probably sound like a cop out, but I would pick right where I'm
at right now- in the woods in Indiana! I've always wanted to live in a
secluded, nature intensive place, and that's where I'm at. It's a great
place to raise my daughter- we take long walks in the woods, sit by our
stream and watch deer and other wildlife for hours at a time.

Well, my first answer would be Northern California because it's quite beautiful
there and the weather is rather mild. However, the south of France has always
sounded a bit romantic, but I've never been there yet. If money were no object,
I could check it out for a while and move if I didn't like it...

I'd actually like to have multiple residences. One would probably be
here in the San Francisco Bay area, or maybe someplace a bit quieter but
close by. I'd also love to have an apartment in Manhattan, and an
apartment in London. What a life! In reality, it may be possible to
arrange short term living in various places since so much of my work (in
all media) is done on a computer, and can be done in almost any
location. I have a friend who is just now leaving for India, where she
will continue to work for US companies via the WWW... wild!

"I must say that I am quite content living where I do, in South-West
England. I have lived here all my life and feel it is my natural
surroundings. I would love to travel further afield to experience other
places and cultures, but I feel that the Somerset levels will always be the
place that I call home."

The answer to this probably changes, depending on when you ask me, whatever
my mood might be.... About half the time, I'd choose Manhattan, because
it's so energetic and exciting, so much to do and explore there. The other
half of the time, I'd live in a house on a private beach in Oregon (land of
the best beaches by far), close enough to the ocean to see it from my
living room and studio, but far enough back that I didn't have to worry
about 10-ton logs being hurled through my window during storms. Actually,
the ideal thing would be to live BOTH places -- to shuttle back and forth
between my loft in Manhattan when I feel like seeing lots of people and
going to galleries and museums, and retreating to my getaway in the
Northwest when I feel like quiet and introspection and unbelievably
beautiful scenery. So if money were no object, I'd want both!

i would have tadao ando build me a house using concrete, glass, and
transparent LCD "windows".. in the japanese countryside. water and
nature would play heavily into the structure... kind of blurring the
lines as to what is "inside" and what is "outside".. in large minimal
space that blends the natural with futuristic.

Somewhere near here. I'd like a big dayglo pink battleship with helicopters
too, though.

I'm changing the country every 5 or 6 years.
because it's just exciting. Now I'm living in Barcelona. One of the reason I choose here that it's a part of Europe. Quick to access other European countryies - because somehow Japan is very far. Here you can see very deep blue sky and sea in Summer. So in next period, I would like to live northern cities to see Aurora.

I do keep returning to San Francisco, and I suppose that of the
places I have visited this location is certainly among my favorites.
But if we are to speak of an infinitely plush fantasy I might want to
add a few flats elsewhere. On my rather limited travels, I have for
example liked Reykjavik and Tokyo, and I take as many weeklong
holidays in New York as I can manage. And again I might want still
another flat in a place in which - unlike California - cars do not
rule the streets and bicycles are granted their own roads - for
instance, Amsterdam or thereabouts. I do in general like urban
existence within a short walk or ride of the ocean, although - as we
are speaking of the veritably dripping liquidity of the fantasy state
- I imagine a little space in the still under construction orbiting
space platform might take care of the occasional need to put some
distance between myself and the home planet. And closer to home a
coastal town like Mendocino might work nicely as well, especially
when an escapist temperment is unable to sustain the
trans-atmospheric commute. I expect my list will get longer after
further travels, and for those new locations I will leave some blanks
in this answer for its further evolution.
