Randy Grief, Nigel Ayers & Robin Storey:
Oedipus Brain Foil Interview
We speak with the three collaborators of the experimental
triptych, Oedipus Brain Foil.

Black Tape For A Blue Girl:
As One Aflame Laid Bare By Desire (7.9) (Projekt - 1998) - Neo-classical touches cast a lovely gray pallor over these delicate, yet powerful, Gothic proceedings.
Fountainhead: Cloud Cover (7.9) (Aucourant - 1998) - Much darker and murkier than his Robert Scott Thompson releases, though still a great (if not a little spooky) immersion.
Paul Haslinger: Score (8.3) (RGB Records - 1998) - This multifaceted gem sparkles with a literally dazzling array of assorted musical colors.
Dino Pacifici: Acquiescent Resonance (5.9) (Dance Plant - 1998) - Very nicely rendered electronic music, just a bit too new agey for my personal tastes...
Philip Samartzis: Residue (7.9) (Dorobo - 1998) - Two lengthy pieces form a journey through an everchanging world created from ordinary and wildly fantastic sounds.
Various Artists: Ancient Alien (7.5) (Waveform - 1998) - So what if these bright electronic tunes are recycled material; it's all worth hearing again... very upbeat stuff.
Various Artists: Oedipus Brain Foil (8.7) (Soleilmoon - 1998) - An abstract tryptich of sound from Nigel Ayers, Randy Greif and Robin Storey. See also this month's interview with all three artists.
Vox: Divine Rites (8.5) (World Class - 1998) - Beautiful, but spare, Middle Eastern and electronic touches adorn ancient female vocal hymns. A wonderful blend of old and new!
Where Echoes End: By the Pricking of my Thumb (7.1) (Beaks Ahoy - 1998) - A bleak epic which weaves music and samples into a dark tapestry reflecting man's inhumanity to man.
Zero One: Zero One (6.9) (Waveform - 1998) - Immaculate, crisp and clear, these lively tunes are formed from classic analog sounds and perky rhythms.
