Simple, lush soundwaves peacefully reverberate throughout Summerland and are embellished with faint sparrowsong and lightly flowing rivulets of flute. Tranquility found! A bit of backwards music leads the way through Persia; semi-classical arrangements sweep majestically while retaining a bit of mystery.
Chittering frogsounds were recorded live in a remote marsh, adding their chorus to the deeply swirling ebb-and-flow of the Aurora Borealis. Ghostly streamers spiral out from the shimmering sonic vortex.
The fluid splashings of Water (2:21) are infused with the soft chiming of a keyless autoharp and radiant tape loops. The title track of their first release, A Gradual Awakening may be regarded as the defining work Danna and Clément; intertwining strands of synth softly dance in an everlasting breeze.
Take an extended audio vacation To the Land Beneath the Waves (25:10) where the atmospheres of Lake Ontario circa 1985 are recaptured like a dreamy memory. The sounds of wind, waves, gulls and buoys seep into smooth analog electronic drifts. A second movement bows under the gentle pressure of stronger synth gales, serpentine ribbons weave amid muted trickles buried in the mix. Everything eventually smooths into a rippling plane which slowly turns, spinning off luminous trails of musical haze, which is overtaken by a stormy nightime sea. Multi-layered synthstreams roll as if propelled by magical forces in special bonus track, Lumia II, which was recorded in 1999 based on preliminary work from 1994.
