(Staalplaat - 1999)

What nefarious schemes were undertaken in the abandoned subterranean military installation at Bath? The three operatives of c4i explore the darkened tunnels, listening to the sounds of covert lab experiments with steadily humming equipment and machinery of unknown purpose. A secure storehouse of dark ambient/industrial sounds, copenacre will appeal to those who prefer their noise to be less assaultive and more stealthy.

Ashley Davies (of Project Dark, etc.), John Everall (Tactile, et al.) and Joe Banks (of Disinformation) join forces to combine their sound-altering skills in this midnight raid upon the disused facility, resurrecting its secret memories.

Mysterious, microscopic glitches pervade Grade of Service leaving a trail of muted ruffles. Noisier and truly industrial in nature, Gate Steal swelters in a caustic bath of rhythmic rumbles, whispery buzzes and assorted grindingly abrasive outbursts, before rather suddenly defusing. Guard Space (12:30) is a long passage reverberating with mechanical hums and light clatter, cutting out abruptly before entering the next zone.

Static Access is more active, alive with alarm-like wails, blips, whirrs and not surprisingly perhaps, static. The humid atmosphere of Ghost (5:39) is densely suffused with boiling electric riffles which slowly encircle the listener, growing in intensity and threat. Deception Control engages in further reconnaissance through unknowable whereabouts, encountering drones, random clunks, respiratory ventilation and muffled orchestralish mood-music.

Dark industrial ambience and secretive electronic communications are uncovered by c4i's infiltration of copenacre, yielding a stockpile of variously noisy atmospheres. Turn it up loud enough and make the neighbors think you're secretly mining and processing plutonium, or something. An 8.7 for these 50 minutes of mysterious transmissions. 8-7.gif
