good question: my interest in electronica is fast waning.

Kiss. Mel Brooks films. Horror and cold war spy
books. Cars. Snoopy. Guitar heroics. Stadium concerts. Junk
food. Television, especially obscure detective shows from the early
1970s. The Music Industry.

This is probably a cop out, but I find, as time goes by, I'm MORE interested
in a lot of different things. Whether it's natural curiosity, or an insane
belief that I can't "discard" something until I totally understand it- I
don't know. Having said THAT- I'm not crazy about meat anymore; don't know
why, it just doesn't appeal to me as it once did. Oh- and I don't care much
for celibacy, either. But I was never terribly interested in that.
Tortured by it? Yes. Interested in it? No.

I was very fascinated by the icons, the cult persons in music
industry. I'm no longer fascinated by most of them. I am not
impressed anymore by the label literature and marketing schemes
trying to sell their music. I still have respect for many artists,
but I don't have a fascination for any.

Unfortunately for your archives here I never have been interested in anything
else than music and movies. Or at least from what I can remember from my
childhood. Very briefly I did some sports, like tennis and swimming, but it
never held my attention as a young kid like music did.

Being a scientific and artistic type I once wanted to be a
"Micro-Biologist". In particular I wanted to be involved in Genetics and
Cloning. Enjoyed the movie A.I. Over the years I discovered Computer Science
and leaned toward that avenue for my scientific endeavors. Musically
speaking I used to love Progressive Rock. Now days its more introspection
and gentler sides.

I used to sit around for hours and hours talking about and dissecting music
and career plans with my musician friends; now I usually feel my eyes
glazing over when that subject, and all its cousins (especially music
promotion) come calling. I'd much rather talk about anything else. Don't
get me wrong - music is one of the most important areas of my life, and my
career is going great, but talking about my music usually bores the crap
out me. What's that famous quote? Dancing about architecture.....

I just keep adding new fascinations onto old ones.

i was the one drinking beer in the corner at raves in the early 90's... i
never got into these parties as much as some .. but i was fascinated with
kick drums... i went searching for acid dj's and minimal techno.. just to
hear that pure sound in such a way...and i wouldn't quite say it doesn't
hold interest anymore, but i used to skateboard a lot

In thinking about the question, I came to realize something I had never
seen before. Everything, without exception, that I ever REALLY loved at
some earlier time in my life, no matter how long ago, still holds
fascination for me. There are plenty of things that I was once mildly
enthusiastic about, for which I no longer have any enthusiasm, but there
was a certain threshold above which the interest, fascination, love or
whatever, never has gone away.
In 1981 or 1982, I really loved Devo and The Human League and Kraftwerk,
and also liked (less intensely) The Psychedelic Furs, Men at Work, and The
Fixx. Now, almost 20 years later, I still love the first three and don't
care at all about the latter three. If I go through the years and think of
all the bands or artists who were my "favorite" at one time or another, I
find that without fail, even going back to grade school and Elton John, I
still have a real fondness for these "old favorites."
But there's an extremely long list of names that were "second-rate
favorites," and about which I can only scratch my head when contemplating
what they ever meant to me: Styx, ELO, The Kinks, etc. It's possible for
that kind of love & fascination to completely vanish, and later seem a mystery.

Hmm, my interests keep expanding, but I'm not good at consciously
letting go of old interests, I always think, "I'll get back to that
soon," and then I just don't have enough time. So, I guess there are
interests that have fallen by the wayside simply because I don't have
enough time for them. I'm less interested in dandyism than I used to,
or perhaps my vanity is just more disguised... ;-).
